Helping to fund holidays for cancer patients
After a successful first year supporting the Wessex Cancer Trust (WCT), local insurance group Alan & Thomas is pleased to report that thanks to the generosity of all sixty members of the A&T workforce in Poole and Gillingham, they will be funding the Trust's holiday home at Hoburne Naish resort in New Milton for 2013.
The holiday home, one of two in the area, is available to cancer patients and their families across the Wessex region to escape to and provides much needed respite and the chance to spend important quality time together.
Alan & Thomas HR Director, Susan Reeves, is delighted that their fundraising efforts have been transformed into something so worthwhile, "I knew that our staff would give 100% to supporting WCT and last year was no exception. We've held dress down days, written a cookbook, attended various WCT events and even organised our own quiz to raise funds and to be able to fund the running of the holiday home for the coming year is fantastic".
WCT Area Manager for Dorset, Karen Rhys, is equally as delighted, "Working with everyone at Alan & Thomas throughout the year has been a pleasure and we are so grateful for their support. Their commitment to WCT means they have extended their partnership with us for another year, which means the world to us".
The holiday homes at New Milton and Weymouth – chosen due to their close proximity to the local hospitals for ongoing treatment - are fully equipped and are available for cancer patients and their families in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands between February and October each year. Each home typically attracts over thirty families throughout the year – many of whom wouldn't be able to have a holiday due to financial and medical constraints.
