A&T plays part in National Apprenticeship Week

Alan & Thomas plays part in National Apprenticeship Week

Local insurance specialists Alan & Thomas Insurance Group have been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week with the Minister of State for Skills & Enterprise Matthew Hancock and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton.

On Monday, Alan & Thomas HR Director Susan Reeves represented the Poole-based broker, along with twenty year old A&T apprentice and former St Peters School and Brockenhurst College student Nick Magee, at an exclusive breakfast reception at the Chartered Insurance Institute HQ at Aldermanbury in London to launch an industry-wide apprenticeships promotion.

Keen to promote higher apprenticeships, which will give students a recognised professional qualification alongside on the job training, Susan Reeves has been involved at a national level working with other industry partners on schemes to provide school leavers with an alternative to university and a route into the insurance broking sector. The CII, BIBA, the ABI and partners from across the insurance and risk management industry are all backing these schemes.

“These programmes are now being seriously considered across the risk management and insurance industry in the UK and I’m pleased that A&T have been able to play a pivotal role in getting to this stage. I have been working with senior figures in the industry for some time now developing these programmes, so am particularly proud to be part of this promotion during National Apprenticeship Week” remarked Susan.

A&T currently have two apprentices working at their Poole office and are looking to increase this number and recruit more for both their Poole and Gillingham offices.

“We are committed to the development of young people and our in-house apprenticeship programme for school leavers sees them move around the various departments at A&T gaining valuable experience in all areas. They do not simply carry out administrative tasks but are involved in shadowing account executives with broking exercises and with client visits. Our current programme also gives them the opportunity to attend a three day introduction to insurance course in London, which also includes a half day visit to the famous Lloyds of London building so they are getting a real taste of what the insurance industry can offer”.
