Olympic fever is running high at local insurance broker Alan & Thomas thanks to an internal contest, which sees the company's 60-strong staff at their Poole and Gillingham offices compete in an Olympic themed contest to win various prizes.
The contest nicknamed 'Going for Gold' and dreamt up by Gillingham-based account handler Allan Potter, has split staff into twelve teams who have been assigned with a number of Olympic events each. The teams collect points based on whether a Great Britain or Commonwealth team or athlete wins a medal. The top three teams, those in gold, silver and bronze positions, with the most points at the end of London 2012, will win prizes including a team lunch at a local restaurant of their choice, as well as High Street vouchers including ones for various sports retailers to encourage participation in sporting activity. Points are also awarded for any World and Games records that are set.
HR Director Susan Reeves, who has instigated the contest, remarked, "It's usual A&T tradition to celebrate major sporting tournaments internally. It encourages staff to interact with colleagues in other teams and offices who they wouldn't necessarily speak to that often and it's certainly created a fun and lively atmosphere, whilst giving us the opportunity to celebrate such a momentous event as London 2012".
As part of the contest, staff have also decorated their offices and held a special sporting themed Dress Down Day on 27th July to celebrate the Games' Opening Ceremony, which raised money for their charity of the year, the Wessex Cancer Trust.
