Businesses tee off for charity
The sun was shining when over seventy golfers recently took to the green for the annual Wessex Cancer Trust Golf Classic at the exclusive Remedy Oak Golf Club near Wimborne.
Sponsored for the second year running by Alan & Thomas Insurance Group, the event was again a sell out and attracted a mix of corporate supporters. All attendees played eighteen holes and were then treated to a three course meal courtesy of the club's expert chefs.
Celebrity guest of the day was former National Hunt champion jockey, John Francome, who was joined by Hampshire cricketer David Griffiths and ex-international basketball player Paul Philip.
Local Olympian Dan Hunter, who participated in the beach volleyball at London 2012, provided the evening entertainment with a short talk on his experiences. This was followed by a prize giving for winners from the day, as well as a prize raffle and auction which helped to raise much needed funds for the Trust. In total, the event raised in excess of £4,500.
Organiser and WCT Area Manager for Dorset, Karen Rhys was pleased with the day, "Our annual golf classic is one of the highlights of our fundraising calendar and we're extremely grateful not only to Alan & Thomas for sponsoring the event but also to the club and players who return year after year to show their continued support for the Trust."
As sponsors of the event, Alan & Thomas were thrilled to be able to lend their support, "We are proud to support Wessex Cancer and the tremendously worthwhile work they do for cancer patients and their families in our region and to be able to give that little bit extra in terms of sponsorship, as well as taking part in the golf day was an easy decision to make" remarked A&T Marketing Manager, Hayley Baverstock.
