A&T worker volunteers in South Africa
A young administration assistant from Alan & Thomas Insurance has recently returned from a volunteering trip to South Africa. Kristi Moore, 18, spent two weeks in a township in Heidelberg with a group of sixty fellow volunteers helping out in a local school and orphanage.
"I have always wanted to go abroad as a volunteer to help out others less fortunate than us. When the opportunity came up with St Mary's Church in Poole, I jumped at the chance" said Kristi.
During her trip, Kristi was involved in teaching a group of 6-14 year olds, as well as helping to build an outside obstacle course for use during the students' physical education lessons. She also helped paint a large shipping container, which the local school uses as a classroom.
Kristi, who has been with Alan & Thomas for just over a year and who completed an apprenticeship scheme with the Poole-based broker, had to raise the £1000 travel cost herself via several fundraising events which she organised and from donations from generous family, friends and colleagues.
